4th of July

So the day started out great. We had a big family get-together at my cousins' house and had good BBQ, swimming and boating in the lake, some games on the yard and fireworks out on the water. But after getting home, things were not so great. We pulled in the driveway at about midnight and I left my car unlocked because Matt was unloading some stuff from the back. We live on this deserted dead-end dirt road where Matt never locks his car and sometimes we even leave the house doors unlocked if we are just running into town. Well sometime between the time we got home and the time we finished unloading the car, someone stole my wallet. Which means that they were in the yard while we were there unloading the car! Yikes! Matt and I both heard something outside so we doubled checked the car locks and turned on a bunch of lights but it was already too late. I didn't know about the wallet until the next morning when I couldn't pay for my contacts at the eye doctor's office. Stupid!! So the whole day was spent cancelling credit and debit cards, getting a new driver's license (although I won't get it for a few weeks because MI does not make them on sight) flagging my social security number so I don't get any identity theft. Yeah my wallet pretty much had my whole life in it. Then a policeman, a handsome one too : ) came out and said that several houses were hit all around our lake. He thinks that they were actually on the lake and they just went around looking for stuff to take. So he tried to get some fingerprints from the car door but they were all smeared. Damn I wish things were like on tv when CSI gets a perfect fingerprint and catches the bad guy. And it couldn't possibly be worse timing. I kinda need a credit card for my long drive across the country in just over a week. And the driver's license would probably be a good idea. I fly out west on the 20th. For now I am penniless and driving around with a passport.
There are the fingerprint smudges on my car door...

you put a security alert w/ the three credit bureaus right? you'll have to think of another reason to drop in and chat up this cute police officer. *wink*

I did put a fraud alert with the credit bureaus. Actually you only have to contact one of them and they contact each other. For the rest of it, I am starting to get things together. I got my Costco card, very important!
