"I think we should go in the crawl space."

Says Matt. I laugh. "This isn't funny. I think it would be a good idea." So I watch outside and Matt gets ready to get into the crawl space. It is raining hard and the wind is blowing. We have the news on and hear that a tornado has touched down east of us and is headed towards Fenton and Rose Corners. Matt- "Uhh, that is here. That is where we live!" So we run around shutting windows, unplugging electronics and finding pets. Jack (the dog) is terrified and cowering under the bed. Obe (the cat) is frantic around my feet. We had no idea where Shakespeare, the other cat, is. The wind changes outside. It gets eerily calm but at the same time you can here a loud, deep howling noise and the sky looks weird. The sirens are blaring in the distance. So I got nervous. I have never seen a tornado or been affected by one. My experience is limited to the movie Twister, which was scary but in Kansas, where tornados are supposed to be. Not Michigan. Right? The power flickers several times and then goes out. We have no idea what is going on but we can hear the tornado and see where it is. And then it is over. For us. However, the tornado went right through Fenton. Straight through downtown. We live on the outskirts. Houses, powerlines, trees, cars, businesses destroyed. It even made national news. Michigan's strongest tornado in 10 years. Four tornados in the area. There are still helicopters circling and I saw 5 news trucks today. The Red Cross Disaster Relief is here. A lot of buildings lost roofs, some were completely destroyed and even more trees were uprooted or splinted in half. I have never seen anything like it. With all of the trees down, the town will not look quite the same after it is all cleaned up. Amazingly, no one was hurt. That was Friday evening. We finally got power late on Saturday night. That is a long time to go without electricity and water! Some areas weren't expected to have power until midnight tonight. Here is just a small taste of the damage...

That's amazing. What a relief no one was hurt in all the things that were uprooted and smashed. I'm glad you are safe. Did you still have to go to school?

Crazy! The tree roots are amazing that something can be so strong to tear them from the ground like that. Glad everyone is ok
