Buy pre-hung doors
I finally convinced my brother to come up to help me do some work around the house. I was excited! I have a long list of projects that I need some help completing. Starting with doors.....So I was missing 2 doors and had 2 rooms that has mismatched doors. I have had 4 nice white six panel doors sitting in the basement since this summer. Rather than buying pre-hung doors, my dad thought it would be easier to get just the doors. That way we would not have to rip out the door frames and trim. It sounded good.
Meaning, we had to measure the match the hinges, chisel out the edge and match it to the doorway. Sounds easy right? HA! We got one door hung after several hours of trying on Saturday. And by hung, I mean hanging on hinges that are not clean or neat. And the door does not shut cleanly or nicely either.
Then, we got up to start again on Sunday morning. Just a few minutes after starting, Chris took a razor blade to the finger. It looked like a small cut. Not quite. When we looked at it, we could see the bone! Sick! Off to urgent care. He sliced through the muscle but could still move it so they were able to put stitches in. 9 stitches. That took a few hours. I learned about a concept seen on CSI. Blood splatter. There was nothing on the blade, door, or floor near where he was standing. However, when cleaning later, I found several drops of blood across the room. Interesting forensic science....
We tried to get the other doors up but he was not much help. The next 3 doors we tried did not fit inside the existing door frames. Apparently, "standard" does not mean standard on doors. So we moved onto a couple of projects in the laundry room. I wanted a light in the laundry room and the cabinets needed to be secured. As I was trying to find the stud in the wall with a nail, my pant hem caught on the ladder and I feel right onto my hands. Yes, I had to lay on the ground for a while to recover. it hurt! I have a nice bruise on my knee and both of my wrists and forearms are so sore.
After a family dinner in Grand Blanc, Chris and I tried to use the saw to take off a little from the edge of the upstairs bathroom door (since it would be nice to have a door on the bathroom). He had a great idea to put the door on the kitchen table and use the saw in the house. Now I think I will be trying to clean up dust for months!

I drove Chris to the airport this morning before work. Yep, I have lot of dust and tools laying around. Nope, I do not have a door on the bathroom.
Moral of the weekend: Buy pre-hung doors and hire a licensed and insured contractor

that sounds FRUSTRATING!
your story is precisely why Jeff almost always hires stuff like that done. It usually takes him two to four times longer than it would take a professional, and then by the time he's done, he's cursing and so angry that I would rather he hire it done too :)
Good luck with your doors. I hope you get a bathroom door soon! Poor Chris.
