A New Year's Resolution
I am not much for making, or more importantly, keeping resolutions. This year I decided to make a resolution and attempt to keep it. Nothing fantastic or glamorous at all. My resolution is to drink water. I just don't drink water at all. I have about 2-3 cups of coffee in the morning, if I can find my mug as the day starts at school. Then I usually forget to get a drink at lunch because it is crazy busy and frankly, I would rather eat than go get a drink. Then I usually drink a diet pepsi when I get home with my dinner. Terrible! I know. But I don't like water. And I especially don't like water when it is not refrigerator cold. Hence, the reason for my resolution.Rather than a specific amount of water per day, I decided I would just make an effort to keep a water bottle filled throughout the day. Actually, I just started this last week. So far, I have done very well! I am averaging 3-4 bottles of water throughout the day. I have been refilling those typical throw away bottles because they are easy to carry around. I have a Culligan water cooler in my classroom this year because we have to use purified water when we tube feed a student in my classroom. That is the best thing for someone who hates drinking water. Cold, fresh water is always available so I do not have any excuse not to drink it. To tell you the truth, I think I like drinking cold water throughout the day. Maybe I am making it up but I feel a little more energized and less tired. Yeah, I might be making that up. I did find some benefits that I want...
-Less Likely to Get Sick and Feel Healthy: Drinking plenty of water helps fight against flu and other ailments like kidney stones and heart attack. Another words one of the benefits of drinking water can improve our immune system.
-Relieves Fatigue: Water is used by the body to help flush out toxins and waste products from the body. If your body lacks of water, your heart, for instance, need to work harder to pump out the oxygenated blood to all cells, so are the rest of the vital organs, your organs will be exhausted and so are you.
-Good Mood: Your body feels very good that’s why you soul feels happy.
There is a major pitfall to drinking water than no one ever talks about. I HATE having to go to the bathroom ALL THE TIME! I swear I am in bathroom every hour to hour and a half. I know that is probably good but it is a huge hassle. I have groups of kids in and out of my room from 9-12 before I get lunch. Then again from about 12:45-3. That is several times in the bathroom. And when I drink water, there is no holding it. It just rushes down and before too long I can barely walk down the hall. We tell the kids all of the time to walk quietly in the hall and I can't even do it myself!
So do all of the benefits of drinking water outweigh the one terrible pitfall?

Good job, Erin!! I was like that too, until I gave up coffee for Lent one year and started drinking water, and then after I went 40 days with basically just drinking water, I found I needed it. The peeing thing IS an annoying side effect. I'd like to say it gets better, but it might not. They say your bladder adjusts after a while.
When I drink coffee I also have a water handy. That is when I am racing to the bathroom. I can handle one but the combo seems to get me. I'm impressed with your goal!
I'm like that too, Steph. You add the water to the coffee, and it's all over
