Farming is in my family
I didn't know that. Last week my great-uncle Howard died. He had a long wonderful life as a farmer. His casket even had a tractor embroidered into the top. My uncles flew out from Boise and Seattle and my brother came up from Ohio. It was really nice to see the family together. Unfortunately my mom couldn't get a flight out. My family is slightly crazy and can be annoying but they are good people. The funeral was the best funeral I have ever been to. It was very untraditional and was full of stories and good memories. I loved listening to his friends talk about before the depression and seeing so many things over the years, like Babe Ruth. My uncle was born before the Titanic sunk! I think that is just amazing! We drove out to the farm on the way to the cemetery and it was great to see the place where my grandma grew up and where she taught in a one room schoolhouse. My grandma died seven years ago in September so sometimes I feel like I missed out on getting to know her as an adult. She was a neat lady and I feel like I have gotten to know her more since I moved to Michigan because of all of the stories that I hear from my aunts and my cousins who spent a lot more time with her. I enjoyed taking pictures with the family so I thought I would put some up here.

i'm sorry you lost your uncle and your grandma (earlier in your life, i know--but i'm sorry). and i'm sorry i didn't read this entry until now to tell you so. :(
as my grampa is ill and about to die, i am seeing even more fervently how vital a roll family plays in life. the memories. love. emotions that wrap memories like a beautiful present to be enjoyed inside and out.
i'm very glad you are able to enjoy your family as you have so far. i think it adds a completeness to life that some people completely miss out on. cheers to the experiences you have had. cheers to the experiences that have yet to come!
